It seems like the Chuck Norris Facts are on their way to becoming a sensation. Like anyone, I’m curious about cultural phenomenon’s like this happen? Why Chuck Norris and not, say, Jean Claude van Damme for these jokes? Why the Macarena?
The wikipedia entry has an interesting view into the evolution of these absurd “Facts.” I see it as a combination of the fact that CN has made a long film and TV career of playing, essentially, either a low-rent Clint Eastwood or an anglicized Bruce Lee.
it’s a flattening of low culture. It’s celebrated in this country with high doses of irony and/or saturated fat.
