I couldn’t believe it when I heard them play “Bottom of the Ocean” on the radio this morning. I hadn’t heard that song in years, and it instantly took me back. I heard it on KEXP and was impressed by them reaching so far back into the obscure past for something to play. Then I heard news of the murder.
I’m so sorry for the family and friends of the Harveys.
I remember them as an opening act for the Alarm. Usually, we suffered opening acts at concerts—politely and sometimes not politely. But when when we noticed that much sound, that much melody being pounded out by just two guys, my friends and I were quickly won over to their side. Someone bought the tape at the show, and I bought my own copy (yes, that’s how we did it back then) a few weeks later. It was one of the few albums I listened to with my friends, and when I was alone.
